Tips For Technician Efficiency
3 Tips To Improve Technician Efficiency
In the previous blog post, we discussed ways in which you could decrease your overhead. We’d like to dig deeper and give you tips on how to increase the efficiency of your mechanic technicians. The more efficient your technicians, the faster repairs get done. This opens up more time to slot in more repairs, which equals more income for your shop and a higher profit margin.
1. Establish. Improve. Reward:
The first thing that needs to be done is to take an “inventory of labor”; this is the number of labor hours your shop has available to it each day. This can be calculated by taking the maximum number of billable hours each technician is capable of producing each day and adding them together.
Employees typically improve better when they are given goals to work towards and measure themselves against. Set tangible goals related to improving the baseline you calculated for individual technicians and for the team as a whole.
In order to keep your team motivated it is good to incentivize meeting production goals. Add small incremental bonuses when technicians exceed their respective goals.
2.The Importance of Inspections:
3. Tools are fundamental:
In order to work efficiently, technicians require the right tools, and they need these tools to be in peak condition. To ensure that your equipment is maintained, set up reliable inventory tracking and reporting processes.
With these basic tips, you’ll be well on your way to increasing the efficiency of your shop.
